Racecar Driver Bowls Over Hoosiers With Generosity

INDIANAPOLIS - Everyone's a winner when the game helps Hoosier kids. Just ask the participants in last night's Tropicana Jeff Gordon Bowling Tournament Presented by Village Pantry. For the third consecutive year, the celebrity bowling tournament at AMF Raceway Lanes has kicked-off Brickyard 400 festivities.

The highlight of the evening was watching Gordon, a three-time Brickyard 400 champion, prove that he is as skillful in the bowling alley as he is at speeding out of gasoline alley. Event participants were bowled over by Gordon's generosity when he presented Riley Hospital for Children with a check for $150,000. Gordon named Indiana's only comprehensive children's hospital one of the designated charities of The Jeff Gordon Foundation in 2001.

"We're grateful for the generous financial support we receive through The Jeff Gordon Foundation and the annual bowling tournament. The funds raised directly benefit our pediatric services, supporting the advanced health care we provide to thousands of Hoosier children," said Dr. Richard Schreiner, physician-in-chief for Riley Hospital.

Event highlights included trick shots performed by professional bowlers Doug Kent and Mike Aulby. In addition, NASCAR drivers Jimmie Johnson, Brian Vickers, Tony Raines, Kyle Petty and Richard Petty bowled during the event. Other celebrity bowlers included Robbie Loomis, IRL driver Sarah Fisher and Busch driver Blake Feese. Indiana's own "survivor" Rupert Bonham also made a guest appearance.

Banner sponsors included DuPont, Chevrolet, Dale Jarrett Foundation, Barnes & Thornburg, Nextel and Pepsi. Indiana media outlets sponsoring the event included WFMS 95.5 and Comcast.
