NASCAR Testing Coming To PIR
NASCAR Testing Coming To PIR
Phoenix International Raceway will be the site of NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series testing beginning Monday, October 18, and all NASCAR fans will want to listen to KSLX (100.7 FM) radio for chances to watch in style.
The station will provide 100 listeners the rare chance to watch teams get ready for racing at PIR from the NASCAR garage and infield. Less than three weeks before the Checker Auto Parts 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at PIR, the test will include many of the drivers in the "Chase for the NEXTEL Cup". Currently Jeff Gordon, Jimmy Johnson, Dale Jarrett and Jamie McMurray are scheduled, however more are expected.
"We were looking for something different, something that would give the race fans throughout the Valley an opportunity they normally wouldn't have," said PIR President Bryan R. Sperber. "NASCAR Testing is an important time for teams to visit a track where they feel it's a 'must win.' Our position as the third-to-final race in the championship run this season makes Phoenix International Raceway a track where finishing inside the Top 10 is critical."
The 100 fans will get passes for entrance into NASCAR testing for one day (Monday, Oct. 18), and lunch will be provided in the infield, just a few feet away from the crews working on the cars. Before and after lunch, fans will be able to watch the testing session from the infield or on top of the infield media center. Interaction with the drivers is not promised.
PIR is allowing other fans that have a ticket to the Checker Auto Parts 500 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Sunday, November 7, into the grandstands to watch the two days of testing (October 18-19) for free. Anyone without a race-day ticket and interested in watching the test sessions, can do so by purchasing a race-day ticket (starting at $35), or paying an admission free of $20 per day. Individuals with tickets or needing to purchase tickets will be asked to enter through Gate 7 at the track.
