Gordon racing for pride, victories in final three races
Jimmie Johnson's fourth consecutive championship is but a formality at this point. More than one full race ahead of his closest competitor (Mark Martin, at 184 points out), it would take a collapse of gargantuin proportions for Johnson to lose this year's title. Still, that doesn't mean the likes of Jeff Gordon have nothing to race for in the final three races.
Gordon, who will miss out on his fifth championship simply because of bad luck (his performance has solid, if not quite strong, in this Chase) remains focused on winning to close out the 2009 season. Even though he brought an end to his much publicized winless streak at Texas in April, another one has gone on since then, as Gordon hasn't been to victory lane since. Perhaps Texas would be an appropriate place to grab one more victory?
